Blog 4 - SOL Rally Barbados

I am at the start of a well needed 2 days off, now the rush of May has died down today Fergus, Sian and I went down to see the SOL Rally. We picked up the action on SS21 - Lime Kendal South 1 stage on a bend down one of Barbados’ back roads in Horse Hill (which is on the East coast of the Island) along the stage.

We had a bit of trouble finding the location as the organizers had not put up any signs giving the Rally fans directions, we knew roughly where it was but it was only because we could hear the cars and Fergus’ good sense of direction (plus a little guess work and luck) that we found it. After going up one of the steepest roads I have ever seen, so steep that the wheels where loosing grip and spinning half way up! We went over the crest of the hill to see spectators cars parked and at the bottom of the road allot of people all waiting for the Rally to come screaming past them.

After this we headed down to one of our favourite bars to have a couple of drinks, a sea bath and then an ice cream for the way home. Really nice day off and i am looking forward to tomorrow!

  1. Hey!! Just a quick question about forth photo from the bottom, which lens did you use? I'm guessing a wide angle one, I wonder how wide. It kind of gives an impression of fish eye, really cool photo!!

  2. Yeah thats right its a sigma 10-20mm 4-5.6 it has been in my kit bag for a very long time! Used to use it allot when i did clubbing photography and i have started to use it again on the beach for portraits. Its not quite a fish eye but it does distort around the edges. If you get your subject in the middle they will look fine! I chose to put the car right at the edge of the frame so it would distort to try and show the speed :)
