Blog 11 - Church Wedding

Yesterday I shot my first off resort wedding over here in Barbados which came as a nice change. It was in a church called St. Francis which was 20min down the coastal road from where I am based at the Village. I was accompanied by Ferg who was shooting video and Shamar who was doing some training.

The church was a simple but pretty church which had two giant windows at the front over looking the sea which let in tons of natural light which was handy as the Father was not too keen on flashes so I took this opportunity to shoot with out flash as much as possible.  It was going to be a catholic ceremony for the Irish couple, they spent the majority of the time sat down in front of the alter which is a little different to what we are used to but they were sat on these beautiful wooded chairs that matched the rows of seats behind.

Unfortunately I am still not able to show you photographs with the couples in but I still wanted to share with you what it is that I am doing.

After this we went out to a secret garden behind the church which over hung the beach below and had a fantastic sea view. It had black railings all around the outside protecting you from the drop down to the beach and I can imagine that it is a very peaceful place to come and reflect. (If of course you don't have a wedding party, three photographers, the wedding planner and a taxi driver all hanging around) I had brought my wide angle lens with me which i have never used to take portraits here before with but i thought it was a perfect place to try it. I had the couple stand by the railings talking to each other and as they gave each other a kiss I took the picture which has them in the middle and then the expanse of sea and sky with a lowering sun in the background.

We all then jumped in the car and rushed back to Crystal Cove where they were staying to continue the shoot. Apart from a little shower that stopped pretty quickly went off with out a hitch.

Congratulations to Michael and Martina
