Wow I can’t believe I have got this far, after I wrote my first blog about my journey I really did not think I would have much more to talk about but yet here we are, Blog 10 in only 3 weeks!
I just want to say a thank you to you all for taking the time out to read my thoughts on what I am doing. In this short space of time I have had over 400 page views which I know might not seem loads in the grand scheme of things but I am really chuffed.
I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to make comments or ask any questions as we go along. I know some people have been asking me stuff via FaceBook but I would love to hear from more people via the Blog.
I shot my first wedding today in our on site sugar mill.
Taken on my iPhone, turns out i don't have any photos of it without couples in front of it. Need to work on that i think... |
It took place at 2pm and was cloudy. Cloudy might at first sound bad (the bride even after my explanation still thought it was bad) but from a photography point of view it is fantastic. Here in Barbados as we are closer to the equator the light is a lot stronger (especially at 2pm) but the clouds are like one big soft box and the light from the sun get defused and becomes softer. This means when you start taking photographs skin tones become even and softer.
I then took the shoot to the beach even though it was cloudy the horizon was still bright, I wanted the sea and the clouds to be visible in the background so I exposed for that (as discussed in Blog 9) and then used my flash to ensure my bride and groom where well exposed and not too dark. I also challenged myself to do the entire shoot (except for the ceremony, I was not that brave) with an off camera flash. Normally I shoot with my Speed Lite on the top of my camera, but the 7D has a function that can sync up with the flash wirelessly which means you can put it on a tripod and position it away from your camera (off camera flash, simple) this means you can control where your light is coming from and by how much, leading to much more creative shots and lots of drama!
I want to wish Peter and Sarah all the best you were both allot of fun and I very much enjoyed working with you. Good luck for the future!
Also a big Happy Birthday to Tom Duffy
