Blog 18 - Crop Over

Ok so over this end of the world we have had a 4 day weekend! (Well more like a 3 day as I have had 2 afternoon weddings which has been cool and they are coming here soon i promise!) Crop Over is a festival that celebrates the end of the sugar cane harvest and basically there is 4 days of parties and people going mental!

We started it all (Sian, Ferg and I) off on Saturday night by going to a big open air party and then we joined it again on the Monday day time for the "Jump" which is basically a street carnival that last all day. The people taking part get split up into bands and everyone gets dressed up in the colours and they have a big truck with some massive speakers strapped to the back then they jump (and dance) all the way to the stadium in Bridgetown.

Biggest speakers ever!

When we got there we walked down the road and even though we could hear music it had seemed like we had missed it. The carnage on the road was amazing, i must have seen about 17 soles ripped off shoes just lying left in the road plus feathers, bits of costumes and items of clothing to name a few. It then started to rain...

So we had a few beers and thought enough is enough and started to head back to the car. Then... in the distance... there was music. We looked down the road and as welcomed to this...

Now, don't get me wrong here it was an amazing afternoon and the atmosphere took me straight back to my days as a clubbing photographer! but the "dance moves" basically consisted of a bloke standing behind a girl dry humping the hell out of her (well maybe wet humping with the rain) something that Sian got treated to first hand and did not enjoy one bit!

What was great was that everyone was there joining in, big, small, young, old, everybody! It was great!

You could tell they have been dancing all day as they all looked so tired but as soon
as they saw the camera they came alive again!

One of my fav photos, how cool does he look!

She was not worried about the rain!

As i said everyone was joining in and it was great to see, i am really hoping i might be around next year and this time i would be very much up for taking part! See what happens hey!
